SIX MILES OF SPLENDOR: A Service Trip and Picnic in the Pines

  • Meet at the Peek-A-Boo Trailhead parking area at 8:00 AM, nine miles north of Kanab on the east side of US Hwy 89. To carpool, meet at 7:30 AM at the Earthfest Information Table, Kane County Office of Tourism, 78 South 100 East, Kanab.
Presented By: Amazing Earthfest and BLM Kanab Field Office

Along a stretch of highway from Peek-A-Boo Trailhead to Diana’s Throne, the White Cliffs, second step in the Grand Staircase, rise dramatically to the north and east. Framed by a Pinyon/Juniper forest in the foreground and the azure blue sky above, they’re a beautiful sight to behold! But along a discontinued segment of old Hwy 89 stretching some six miles,  unsightly trash has accumulated.

Join a work crew supported by Amazing Earthfest and the BLM Kanab Field Office for this scenic, half-day service trip to clean up trash along the old roadside. To top off the event we’ll enjoy a brown bag picnic lunch (BYO) among rare groves of old-growth Ponderosa Pine thriving on shallow aquifers in the deep sandy bluffs with a 10-mile backdrop of splendid White Cliffs in the distance. Cold drinks will be freely available throughout the event!

Please come dressed in comfortable shoes and work clothes. We recommend wearing a hat, sunscreen, and/or a lightweight long sleeve shirt to protect you from the sun. We will provide gloves and the tools needed to complete the job.
