LOCALLY GROWN FOOD
Students Explore Self-Reliance thru Urban Farming
Date: Monday, May 14, 2018
Time: 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM
Location: Kanab High School Music Room, Cowboy Way, Kanab
Description: From rooftop farmers to backyard beekeepers, Americans are growing food like never before. The innovations of intrepid urban farmers are challenging the way America grows and distributes its food, inviting us to re-imagine our relationships to it. Come and hear what the next generation is thinking!
A panel of Kanab High School seniors selected through an essay contest discuss themes from the award-winning documentary film, Growing Cities, including individual and community resilience, local self reliance, traditional self-sufficiency, small-scale farm cooperatives, urban gardening, local production of fresh vegetables and fruit, farm to table sourcing for local restaurants, health and nutrition of organic food, composting, recycling, farmer’s markets, food waste, soil fertility and Permaculture.
Oral presentations will help determine which students receive scholarships funded by Amazing Earthfest and local restaurant owners at the 2018 KHS Senior Awards Banquet.
