Presented by: Colter R. Davis

Outdoor Adventure and Science & Land

Date: May 8, 2024

Time: 8:00 AM Utah Time - 9:30 AM Utah Time

Colter Davis, geoscience professor at Utah State University, will lead a hike near the Mt. Carmel Junction to look at the crinoid-rich limestone of the Middle Jurassic Carmel Formation. This rock unit is full of ooids and star-shaped crinoid columnals of the crinoid Isocrinus nicoleti. He will discuss the details of these fossils and the depositional history of when Utah was partially covered by an epicontinental seaway. The hike will be easy to moderate and less than a mile.
